A cumulo-nimbus 'cloud street' over Silbury Hill, Avebury
As a storm approaches, a spectacular cumulo-nimbus 'cloud street' forms over Silbury Hill, near Avebury, Wiltshire. The deep blue sky and the yellow of the meadow buttercups in the grass make for a colourful composition. This photograph was taken from West Kennet Long Barrow on the hill opposite.
Silbury Hill remains the largest articifial mound in Europe. It is of similar age to the pyramids at Giza and of similar mass. It's conical outline can be seen for miles around. It sits immediately adjacent to the A4.
