Steep footpath through Quiraing, Isle of Skye
View north along the steeply inclined footpath through Quiraing to 'The Prison' and the pinnacled cliffs of the spectacular Trotternish Ridge.
The Trotternish Ridge is an extensive inclined Olivine-Dolerite sill contorted into magical shapes - especially here at Quiraing - by some spectacular ancient landslips caused by the softer underlying Sandstone failing and large blocks of the heavier Dolerite lava slipping downhill toward the east coast. The cliffs exhibit columnar jointing.
