Sunlit ash trees & ancient field systems in Gordale
Low sun illuminates the bare canopies of native Ash (Fraxinus excelsior) trees in Gordale, near Malham, North Yorkshire. A fantastically preserved ancient field system of strip lynchets enclosed by dry stone walls winds around the foot of Cross Field Knotts beyond. The remains of ancient 'ridge and furrow' patterns are visible within the enclosures.
