Calcite concretion, Valtos Sandstone Formation, Isle of Skye
A huge, rounded, water-worn concretion, fallen from the cliffs onto the beach at Valtos, Trotternish, Isle of Skye. The stunning columnar basalt cliffs of Kilt Rock are visible in the distance.
The Valtos Sandstone Formation, named after this type locality, displays spectacular cannonball-like Calcite concretions embedded in the strata of the sea cliffs.
