Distant illuminated trees on Calstone Down
A shaft of late afternoon sunlight fleetingly illuminates flowering hawthorn trees on the undulating landscape of Calstone Down.
Shaped during the last Ice Age, Calstone Down is a site of special scientific interest due to its range of rare chalkland wildflowers and butterflies. It is home to the Cherhill white horse, the Lansdowne Monument, the remains of Iron Age settlements and fortifications and some impressive Medieval strip lynchets (please see other images in this gallery).
